37: Why Book, Digital Course, 2-Day, 7-Day?

Clear Paths to Peace, Clarity, and Being Pain-Free

In our tradition, once you are accepted as a disciple, you’ll stay with your Shifu (Shi means teacher, Fu means father) to learn all the details and practice every day for years, until you reach a stage where you're qualified—either an awakened life or a Kung Fu master.

In the 1950s, when Grandmaster Wang Xiangzhai started to teach the public Oneness Standing for healing, the structure changed. He taught people as teacher and student, and trained them every day in the park; most of them suffered from severe chronic diseases. Even then, deep transformation was still limited to the Shifu-and-disciples path.

In the 2010s, Grandmaster Yu founded the Dacheng Lichan (Oneness) Institute and built a training system for the modern world, healing both mental and physical. In 2021, when he saw the big wave of mental struggles, he introduced Oneness Three-Fists from our tradition for young and constantly high-stress professionals who may feel challenged not only by sitting meditation, but even by standing still for five minutes. At that time, it was still all in person: the first time, you learn how to practice, then practice on your own at home, and join a 7-day breakthrough in the future.

In 2023, we started the first Digital Course as a tool to help those who are not available to attend in person.

This is very different from many other popular practices that are based on books and step-by-step teachings, where people are expected to follow instructions and gradually reach the correct way of practicing on their own. Oneness practice is not designed in this way. The posture of Oneness practice was carefully designed. Like many other teachings, you can apply these details to help improve your neck, shoulders, or lower back, yet that is not the practice, and not what Grandmaster Yu meant when he said, “you may not find another practice as effective, as direct.” If you are looking for deep change—clarity, peace, and being pain-free—this posture is only the preparation for the true practice.

Many readers have shared that they already feel very good practicing based on the book alone. This was beyond my expectation and is deeply encouraging, because it suggests that Oneness is indeed direct and accessible compared with many other practices. At the same time, I do not want readers to stop here. Feeling better through posture adjustments is real and meaningful, but it is only the beginning. The posture prepares the body; the deeper change begins when you are able to stand effortlessly and enjoy being one with nature. In this state, the body can start to work on its own, without intervention from the mind’s self-directed effort. So if your practice already feels good, please take it as an encouraging sign—not the destination, but the appetizer before the main course.

Once your posture is ready, the most important part is how to truly stand effortlessly and enjoy being one with nature. In this kind of state, your body begins to work on its own without intervention from the mind’s self-directed effort. This is why it is very difficult to learn Oneness from the book alone, because the goal is not simply to learn the posture. The deep change happens when you practice right—not in the sense of a “standard posture,” but in the sense of effortlessness and enjoyment of being one with nature, letting the body settle, and allowing powerful energy and deep awareness to arise, which is not common in many other practices.

In practice, the path of learning Oneness usually unfolds in the following way. Through the book, you are able to understand the method and begin trying at home. Through the Digital Course, you learn to practice correctly so that you can find your effortlessness. Through the Two-Day In-Person Training, you continue refining your standing to find your effortlessness, and you are also introduced to Three-Fists, the dynamic extension of Oneness practice. The Seven-Day Breakthrough Immersion serves a different purpose. It is designed for deep transformation and helps you build a new foundation, something that is often very challenging to develop through daily practice on your own. The Seven-Day is divided into two tracks—Standing and Three-Fists—and is intended for those who wish to experience deeper peace, joy, and lasting change. Grandmaster Yu has consistently advocated that students seeking deeper transformation attend at least one Seven-Day Breakthrough.

It may be confusing why both the Two-Day In-Person Training and the Digital Course exist, as they serve almost the same primary purpose: to help you practice correctly so you can truly stand effortlessly and enjoy being one with nature. In today’s modern world, many of us live under constant stress and pressure. Some people are able to find effortlessness through guided home practice in the Digital Course. Others, even after practicing at home, still cannot find their effortlessness or enjoy the sense of being one with nature. In these cases, they may need support from a wellness coach during the Two-Day In-Person Training. Through small adjustments and guided refinement, many students are able to find their “aha moment” and finally experience effortlessness.

If you can truly find effortlessness through the Digital Course, then you do not need to attend the Two-Day Training. What Happens in 2 Days:

Day 1 — Refine
Step-by-step posture correction, Guided experience of effortlessness
Learn Oneness Three-Fists and Oneness walking
Personal practice plan with small cohort support, Integration into daily life

Day 2 — Stabilize
Deeper alignment, Longer effortless standing
Afternoon focus: Standing or Three-Fists

The key difference is that the Two-Day Training also includes the teaching of Three-Fists, which is often challenging because it is the opposite of our natural human tendencies. Many students, including myself, have experienced this difficulty. At this stage, Three-Fists is taught in person, though we may explore digital or online options in the future.

In Practice, the Path Usually Looks Like This:

  • Book: Understand the method and begin trying at home

  • Digital Course: Learn to practice correctly and find your effortlessness

  • 2-Day In-Person Training: Find your effortlessness and learn Three-Fists

  • 7-Day Breakthrough Immersion: Build a new foundation through deep transformation(details in newsletter #35, 36)
